StatSupport, a data extraction and user support service for European statistics is experiencing growth in demand for data
Since its launch in October last year the service has been in demand from various industry sectors, notably in the search for international trade data. The benefit of the service has been the facility to have regular updated downloads of data at the point at which the data sources are updated every month. Additional staff resources have been made available to handle the peaks of demand. Further research is being undertaken to evaluate data sources and data download capability where clients have been asking for large volumes of data at short notice. To date all delivery schedules have been met on time and in full.
Statsupport was launched in response to the need for data extraction services for business where the analysts do not have sufficient time to trawl through data in such areas as Eurostat and make their own data extractions. In addition, for those who have data extraction experience but need help in locating data or verifying its content, Statsupport takes up the questions and finds the answers. Turn-around times are as low as one hour and complex requests being answered in faster times than normal. The service is delivered via the internet and phone with contact points in the UK, US and Finland.
Focused mainly upon Eurostat data, the service is based on the experience of the company in running user support services for Eurostat and its previous years of experience with the European Commission directorate in the communication development and promotion of its products. Eurostat is the European Commission Directorate responsible for the collection, harmonisation and dissemination of European statistics for the EU27 Member States. This information is important to decision-making at all levels, be it in government policy or corporate planning. It is also essential to research and development.
Already, before the service was launched, requests were received to join the service and to request data extractions. The dedicated website for Statsupport is under way but the launch of the service has had to start in reponse to the demand for services. We expect growth to continue in this area and look forward to a continuing association with Eurostat and other data providers as we meet the broader range of user needs.
